Kenny Scharf is a New York-based artist known for his vibrant and colorful pop art paintings, sculptures, and installations. He first rose to prominence as part of the East Village art scene of the 1980s, a time when the neighborhood was a hotbed of creativity and experimentation. Along with artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, Scharf helped to define the visual language of the era and was known for his bold and colorful pop art paintings, sculptures, and installations that drew inspiration from popular culture, science fiction, and the urban environment.

Scharf had a close relationship with fellow East Village artist Andy Warhol, and his work was heavily influenced by Warhol's use of popular imagery and bright colors. Warhol was also a mentor to Scharf and the two artists were friends until Warhol's death in 1987.

Scharf's work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. He has also created public art installations and murals in cities such as New York, Miami, and Houston. In addition to his fine art practice, Scharf has also worked as a designer and illustrator, creating designs for fashion and lifestyle brands such as Dior, Marc Jacobs and Swatch. Scharf continues to be a leading figure in the contemporary art world, and his work continues to inspire new generations of artists.
